Here is a slightly more complicated example. How many minutes are in one year?
Upon reading the problem careful we notice that we are given 1 year (y). This is the starting number. Notice that it is not a conversion factor. We are asked to find minutes (min). We are not given the conversion factors. We will either have them memorized or can look them up. In this case we should think that we can go from years to days (1y = 365d), days to hours (1d = 24h), and then hours to minutes (1h = 60min). These will be three successive conversion factors.
First enter 1y in the Initial Value (the pink boxes). Then enter the 1y = 365d conversion factor so that the "y" units cancel. Then enter the 1d = 24h conversion factor so the "d" units cancel. Finally, enter the 1h = 60min conversion factor so that "h" units cancel. If you have done everything correct, you should have "min" units left with 525,600 min as the answer. How do you measure? Measure a year? In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee. In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife. How about love?
